PRINCE GEORGE

The Division of Family Practice has worked closely with the Northern Health Authority and other community organizations to find regular primary care providers for about 3,800 patients who did not previously have a doctor.

Here are some of the ways they’ve helped make health care more accessible for Prince George residents:

  • Recruitment of new doctors - the Division of Family Practice has taken a particularly innovative approach to recruiting new physicians to the community, establishing a committee of local leaders from all walks of life to contribute to welcoming doctors who are thinking of re-locating to Prince George.
  • Opening a new clinic - in July 2012, in partnership with the Northern Health Authority, the Division opened the Blue Pine Primary Health Care Clinic, which provides regular care to patients in the area who do not have a family doctor.
  • Hospital care - a team of 30 family doctors in the Prince George area provide continuous care for patients who are admitted to the hospital without access to their own doctor.
  • Coaching for doctors - The Division has provided coaching to local family doctors to help them run their offices efficiently, in the hope that they will be able to increase capacity in their practices, which would, in turn, enable them to accept new patients who are looking for a doctor.
