Early Results Introduction

A GP for Me was tested in three communities: White Rock-South Surrey, Cowichan Valley and Prince George. Since 2010, more than 9,400 patients have been matched with family doctors, as a direct result of the efforts of those communities’ local Divisions of Family Practice - another joint initiative of the BC Ministry of Health and the BC Medical Association. Divisions exist throughout the province and are community-based groups of family physicians working together – and with health authorities and community partners – to achieve common health care goals.

White Rock / South Surrey Introduction

WHITE ROCK / SOUTH SURREY

In the community of White Rock-South Surrey, the Division of Family Practice has helped find regular primary care for more than 4,500 patients who did not previously have a doctor. Seven new family doctors have been recruited to practice in the area, and local residents who are looking for a family doctor can now be matched to one without any wait time. COWICHAN VALLEY

The Division of Family Practice in the Cowichan Valley region has partnered with the Vancouver Island Health Authority, local first nations, the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation and the Cowichan Communities Health Network. Together, they have found primary care providers for 1,100 patients who did not previously have doctors. Read more »
