  • July 21, 2015 - Ridge Meadows, BC: The Ridge Meadows Division of Family Practice recently launched a website to help local residents find doctors in their community who are accepting new patients. Patients who live in Maple Ridge and are looking for a doctor can visit www.findadoctormapleridge.ca. Patients who live in Pitt Meadows can visit www.findadoctorpittmeadows.ca.

  • June 9, 2015 - Williams Lake/100 Mile House, BC: Long distances and challenging driving conditions can make it difficult for some patients in the Cariboo-Chilcotin region to get to their doctor's office, so a group of physicians in the region is turning to telemedicine to ensure that their patients have consistent access to a primary care provider.

  • Cowichan GP Referral Line 1-866-460-3649
    Duncan, BC — Any Cowichan area resident who is looking for a family doctor can now be matched with one as a result of the successful implementation of the A GP for Me initiative. Since 2011, over four thousand patients in the Cowichan area have found a doctor, and going forward, any resident can call the GP Referral Line at 1-866-460-3649 to be connected to a doctor accepting patients.

  • May 27, 2015 - Chilliwack, BC: Community members from Chilliwack to Boston Bar who do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner can just "call PAM" (Patient Attachment Mechanism). PAM is a dedicated phone line that serves as a single point of contact for local residents who want to be connected to a primary care clinic, a family doctor, or a nurse practitioner in the community.

  • April 9, 2015 - Chilliwack: The Chilliwack Division of Family Practice has responded to identified community health care needs by introducing six strategies to improve the capacity and delivery of local primary care services and increase support for vulnerable patients, including the establishment of a dedicated phone line to connect unattached patients with primary care providers. The current focus for this attachment initiative will be patients who do not have a family doctor or nurse practitioner.

  • March 13, 2015 - Ridge Meadows: With the increasing numbers of retiring physicians, communities around the world are competing to attract physicians - and the competition is fierce. As a result of the efforts of the Ridge Meadows Division of Family Practice (RMDFP), three new family physicians have joined the Pitt Meadows Medical Clinic and there are ongoing discussions with a fourth. The addition of these new physicians represents a significant contribution to the Division’s goal of connecting more than 10,000 people who want a doctor, but have been unable to find one.

  • March 9, 2015
    Richmond, B.C. – The Richmond Division of Family Practice (RDFP) is addressing the general practitioner (GP) shortage in Richmond with the introduction of specific strategies that help more residents find a family physician, and ensure patients continue to receive quality primary care.

    The strategies respond to the results of community surveys and consultations, and will be implemented with $1 million in funding from A GP for Me, a joint initiative of the Government of BC and Doctors of BC.

    Surrey, BC —The Surrey-North Delta Division of Family Practice in collaboration with Fraser Health and other partners will be expanding multidisciplinary team care, which will include nurse practitioners.

    This work is supported by $1.415 million in A GP for Me funding to the Division for 16 initiatives to improve access to primary care. A GP for Me is a joint provincial initiative of the Government of BC and Doctors of BC.

  • February 27, 2015
    Hope, BC — The Chilliwack Division of Family Practice is making it easier for expecting and new mothers in the region to access primary care by supporting the expansion of the Chilliwack Obstetric Group (COG) prenatal and postpartum outreach program at the Fraser Canyon Clinic. The Division is using funding it received through the A GP for Me initiative to increase the frequency and capacity of the outreach program and to allow COG to utilize renovated facilities for their outreach.
